The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry
of India (ASSOCHAM) organised an Interactive session on IT ACT 2000 and
proposed amendments, this week at New Delhi. Where Mr. Brijesh Kumar
(Dept. of Information Technology) while addressing the session said
that the Government intends to keep language of IT Act, simple and
user-friendly.
- The aim of proposed amendment was not punish innocent
but to promote e-commerce.
- To enable more participation of an ordinary
person in the online environment.
- The proposed amendments will assure
minimal government interference and will provide for self-regulated
Industry.
- Government is open to suggestions and comments for the
suggested language in the proposed IT Act.
He further pointed out
that though Data Protection Laws are the need of the time but
definition of Intermediaries won't cover Call Centers, as India is
committed towards taking a balanced approach in this regard... still
the government will have a re-look at the Definition of Intermediaries.
The proposed amendments in IT Act 2000 that were open to
comments/suggestions till mid-september are supposed to come into
effect by this year end. The amendments have been criticized by various
sections of the society and labelled as "A Law By The Privileged, For
The Privileged & To Protect the Privileged". |
