Peer-to-Peer Softwares are again the target, this time in Uk, the Federation Against Software Theft is in the process of initiating legal action against a number of companies, who made illegal copies of software available for download from their networks. Also 145 individuals who uploaded software for anyone else to download have been pinned down through IP tracing.
145 Individual IP addresses were traced by forensic investigators working for Federation. Their names, addresses and dates of birth were subsequently disclosed by their ISPs following a court order obtained by The Federation in January 2006. A letter was sent to each of the individuals at the end of March end where the Federation tells the individual that he has been caught. Letter included a further demand of a sum representing a notional licence fee and a contribution towards the costs of the investigation which run into thousands of pounds. An undertaking must also be signed, in effect a promise to behave.
It has also been reported, some individuals have already started to pay. Such kind of piracy has already been targeted in US and now catching up in other countries. Indian Kazaa users need to be careful too. India's most famoues Torrent site already down for the last many months, points to this fact.
