Orkut, the most famous social network is turning
out to be an easy ground for cyber criminals. With Orkut's
administration irresponsive to the user complaints, an ordinary citizen
is left with no option but to approach court everytime his rights are
violated. This can be seen by the increase in the number of PILs filed
in various high courts all over India in the last few months.
In october, Aurangabad High Court issued notices
to the Government over the Community 'I Hate India', which had some
objectionable community picture too. Then recently, PIL was filed over
an anti-Shivaji community. Wherein the Bombay high court asked the
state government to file a reply to a public interest litigation
seeking a ban on Orkut.
Due to the above reasons, few ISPs like SIFY in
Maharastra have started
blocking the Orkut site as reported by users in some discussion forums
yesterday. But blocking is not a solution to such a problem but such
social network require proper administration on behalf of Orkut
company. And good customer care, specially prompt reply/actions to the
compaints received.
In a recent incident... A class 12 student of
Noida Marigold Public school has been arrested for posting obscene
profile of a class 12 student of another school on Orkut. The accused
had himself sent an invitation to open this fake profile, under the
name 'Gaurav Jently' where under he put girl's original photo and some
obscene comments... TOI also mentions that the accused can face up to
10 years in imprisonment but did not provide any sections under which
he has been booked.
